LED lighting is probably something you’ve heard a lot about the past few years. With that being said, you may be wondering whether or not it is worth the hype. LED Lighting – The 411
Okay so for starters, what is LED lighting? The acronym stands for Light Emitting Diode. Energy Star says, “An electrical current passes through a microchip, which illuminates the tiny light sources we call LEDs and the result is visible light.” What are the benefits of LED lighting?
- The Lifespan. It has been said that LED lights last 2-4 times longer than your typical fluorescent lighting. If you really think about it then, not only are you changing your lights less, but you are buying more. The lifespan benefit is two-fold then – lasting longer and saving you money.
- Efficiency. While this topic may not necessarily be something that you’ve considered, it’s a big deal. LED lights spend up to 50% less electricity than your typical lights. Again, saving electricity in turn saves you money.
- Instantaneous Lighting. Other lighting systems may gradually take some time to reach their full lighting potential. The good news here, is that light emitting diode lights are at their 100% brightness right away.
- Durable. How many times have you broken a light bulb? Fact is light emitting diode lights are way more durable and are resistant to breaking. Thumbs up.
